Kevin Joel Hacker, 61, of Decatur, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, in Decatur.
Funeral was Sept. 13 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with Jay Webb
officiating. Burial followed at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Kevin was born April 9, 1957, in Muenster to Paul and Florence (Vanzandt)
Hacker. He married Glenda Neace Aug. 14, 2003, in Denton. Kevin was a retired
truck driver. He was a member of Sons of Thunder Motorcycle Ministry. Kevin
served his country in the United States Navy.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years; sons Daniel Hacker and wife, Heather, of
Nocona, Harley Bowles Jr. and wife, Debi, of Ohio, Donald Bowles of Decatur,
Travis Bowles and wife, Brittany, of Ponder and Robert Wuensche and wife,
Jackie, of Wichita Falls; daughter Sheila Mathis and husband, Michael, of
Krugerville; eight grandchildren; and brothers Patrick and Allen Hacker.

M.D. Hairston, 83, of Paradise, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, in Paradise.
Memorial service is 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, at Jones Family Funeral Home in
Bridgeport.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
M.D. was born July 6, 1935, in Sweetwater to Ramsey and Rocetha (Nalley)
Hairston.
He was a carpenter.
M.D. was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Peggy (Sanders) Hairston of Paradise;
daughter Sherry King and husband, Danny, of Bridgeport; and two grandchildren.

Richard W. Hale, 46, of Decatur, died Wednesday, May 9, 2018, in Decatur.
Funeral was May 15, at First Baptist Church in Decatur with the Rev. Ken May
officiating.
Pallbearers included Thomas Hale, Ryan Hale, Jonathan Hale, Cameron Hale, Gerald
Wright and Jacob Richardson.
Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur handled arrangements.
Richard was born July 9, 1971, in Columbus, Ohio, to Robert and Donna (Baker)
Hale. He married Jenifer Rhoten March 5, 2005, in Fort Worth. Richard was a
member of the First Baptist Church in Decatur.
Richard was a police officer since 2001, a volunteer firefighter and licensed
paramedic. In his 17 years in law enforcement, Richard served Fort Worth,
Newark, Decatur and the State of Texas. His grandfather, father and stepdad were
also in law enforcement.
Richard was a mentor to young children and students of all ages in his
community. He donated bone marrow and didn’t want any recognition from it. He
fostered numerous children and adopted one as his own.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Etta Hale; son Lucas
Hale; and stepfather Jim Glenn.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years; children Thomas, Ryan, Jonathan,
Cameron, Cheyanne, Jackson, Kynlee and Brentley Hale; his mother, Donna Martin
and husband, Wayne of Haslet; his father, Robert Hale and wife, Carol, of
Joshua; sisters Daneen Hall and Dorene Payne and husband, Bill; two
grandchildren; and grandparents Delbert and Donna Baker of Florida.

Bonnie was born in Fort Worth to CT and Bernice (Stewart) Julius. Bonnie worked
for the Bowie Chamber of Commerce from 2001 to 2014. She currently worked for
iOffice since 2014.
Bonnie married David G. Hamilton, May 23, 2007, in Decatur. She was a member of
the Bowie Lions Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Bob Pruitt; and one
granddaughter.
Bonnie is survived by her husband; children Luke, Jake and Matt Hamilton all of
Bowie, Roger Hawkins of Montague and Christie Graybill of Jacksboro; and one
grandchild.

Thomas “Tom” Edward Hancock, 89, of Abilene, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018,
in Abilene.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport with
Joe Caballero officiating. Burial will follow at Chico Cemetery.
Visitation is at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers are Milton Marburger, Fred Holt, Davis Hancock, Mike Davis, Tom
Hancock and John Hancock.
Tom was born June 20, 1928, in Brenham to Davis and Nona (Tenney) Hancock. He
married Max Ann Hufhines June 23, 1951, in Wise County. He served in the United
States Navy. He was employed by the Permian Corp. for more than 30 years and
ranched north of Abilene for the past 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary Catherine; and daughter
Amanda Hancock.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 66 years; sons Tom M. Hancock and wife, Sally,
of Billings, Mont., and John Hancock and wife, Karen, of Bowie; daughters
Rebecca Bairley and husband, Kenneth, of Clinton Township, Mich., and Lisa Le
Beyer of Abilene; and nine grandchildren.

Neva Nell “Toots” Harris, 92, of Dallas, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, in
Dallas.
She was buried at Alvord Cemetery.
She was born June 6, 1925, in Alvord to Floyd and Oma Grissom, She graduated
from Alvord High School in 1942. She played softball, tennis and volleyball in
high school, as well as being a cheerleader. In 1942, she was awarded Alvord
High’s Most Popular Girl and Ideal Smile awards. In 1964, she was Alvord’s
Coming Home Queen. She was an apartment manager and customer service
representative for Sears.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers Kenneth “Jelly”
Grissom and Weldon “Rooster” Grissom.
She is survived by her son Tim Harris; and daughter Kathy Harris.

Carolyn was born Dec. 21, 1939, in Dallas to Jack and Stella (Massingill)
Bauerle. She was married to Johnny Harrison of Wichita Falls for 42 years.
Carolyn retired from the banking industry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Joyce Kennedy; brother John
Bauerle; and son and daughter-in-law Billy and Kim Herrell.
She is survived by her husband; daughters Sheila Marshall of Paradise, Debbie

managed the family farm for many years.

Berniece Miles; and brothers Billy Bob Simpson, F.A. Simpson and Vernon Joe
Simpson.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Hill and husband, Leslie, of

husband, Glenn, of Bridgeport; sons Chris Harrison of Alvord and Roger Harrison

J.E. Haynes, 96, of Decatur, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, in Decatur.

J.E. was born Aug. 11, 1922, in Decatur to Frederick Malvern and Effie Ware
Haynes. He married Lillie Mae Howard Feb. 15, 1947. She preceded him in death in
1992. He also married Ruby Maxine Watkins, who also preceded him in death along
with his infant son, James Howard Haynes. J.E. served in the U.S. Army during
World War II and was a member of the Decatur Church of Christ. He was a retired
heavy equipment contractor.
He is survived by his son, James Haynes and wife, Paige, of Decatur; daughters
Naomi Watts of Alvord and Emily Talley of Decatur; six grandchildren; numerous
great-grandchildren; niece Marion Winder; and nephew Phil Haynes.

Stella Bess (Morris) Massey Helf, 85, of Farmers Branch, died Monday, Dec. 10,
2018.
Graveside service is 10 a.m. Jan. 4 at Oak Lawn Cemetery. A time of remembrance
and sharing is at 10:30 a.m. at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Additionally, a memorial service is at 3 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church
in Farmers Branch, with a reception to follow.
She was born Jan. 18, 1933, in Decatur to Archie and Birdie Morris. She was a
member of the Decatur High School Drum Majorettes. After high school, Stella
attended Decatur Baptist College.
Stella married Frank Massey in 1955 in Decatur. She worked at Bowie Savings and
Loan and for Bowie ISD as a substitute teacher. In 1975, Stella opened a
Hallmark Store in Bowie called The Birdies’ Nest, named after her mother.
Later, she took a traveling position with Merle Norman Cosmetics. She also
helped other startup cosmetic companies, such as Lady Love.
Stella married Robert Helf in April 1989.
Stella was a longtime member of Schreiber United Methodist Church. She
volunteered at Meal on Wheels delivering food to the homebound. She also served
as a FEMA volunteer.
She was proceeded in death by her brother, Raymond (Bubba) Morris; sister Mary
Morris Bruce; niece Renee Bruce; and both husbands.
Stella is survived by her sons, Lee Ray and wife, Kristine, David and wife,
Jackie, and Steven and wife, Dawn; stepchildren Steve and wife, Nelda, Michael
Ann and husband, Charlie, Todd and wife, Connie and Linda; 10 grandchildren; and
six great-grandchildren.

Sidney was born Dec. 5, 1938, in Corpus Christi to St. Elmo and Lola (Crow)
Hodges. He married Bonnie Hodges July 12, 1957, in Fort Worth. He retired as
vice president of Investment Properties in Dallas. He was also a local business
owner and rancher.
Sidney served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the
Masonic Lodge, Bridgeport Lions Club, Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, Economic
Development Board, Willow Point Cemetery Board, Wise County Domestic Violence
Task Force and the Art Club. He was also named Citizen of the Year by the
Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce.
Sidney was preceded in death by his by parents; daughter Tina Witt; grandson
Sidney Charles Hodges III; brothers Maurice and Jimmy Hodges; sister Geneva
Martin; and son-in-law Glen Witt.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years; son Sidney Charles Jr.; four
grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

(Riddle) Wooten. She graduated from Alvord High School in 1941 and married
Thomas Hodges soon after on May 3, 1941, in Waurika, Okla. They worked as dairy
farmers. In 1953 and 1954, they were honored as Comeback Farmers of the Year by
the United States Congress Department of Agriculture. They were married 61
years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Truitt Gene Hodges Sr.;
daughter Jo Evelyn Atkins; five brothers; and a sister.
She is survived by her son, James Hodges and wife, Michelle, of Alvord;
daughters La’Wayne Hauser and husband, Karl, of Fort Worth and Margaret
Gilbreath and husband, Cleddy, of Gainesville; eight grandchildren; and 25
great-grandchildren.

Chan Stuart Horne Sr., 73, of Springtown, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018, in
Springtown.

Bridgeport.
Chan was born April 20, 1945, in Richlands, N.C., to Hubert Lester and Ruby
Gordon (Scott) Horne. He was a member of the United States Air Force and served
his country for 20 years. He worked for Lockheed Martin and served with the
Cottondale Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years.
Chan was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church in Bridgeport and served on the
Parish Council. He donated countless hours to the community for anything needed.
He was well-known as Santa Claus in Bridgeport and Wise County for many years
and brought joy to children of all ages.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son James Stewart Horne; sisters Lois
Horne and Sadie Edwards; and brothers Robert Stanton, Harold Horne and E.W.
Horne.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Peggy (Blisseck) Horne; sons

Georgia Faye McConnell Allen Huffman was born May 26, 1930, to George S. and
Faye E. Reed McConnell in Hereford, where they lived until her high school
years.
During World War II, her father moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the Navy
as an electrician. Georgia attended Eastern High School in Washington, D.C.. She
moved to Dell City in 1946. She had a bachelors of science in English, physical
education and music from Sul Ross (College) University. Georgia was a member of
Beta Gamma Phi Upsilon and Mu Phi Music Sorority. She married Henry (Hank) Riley
Huffman in 1953.
Together they pursued careers in education, and traveled to 11 different
countries and most of the United States.
Georgia taught school for more than 30 years in Texas. She taught music, PE,
science and English in Odessa, Imperial, Dell City, Grapevine, Newark, Alvord
and at Northwest High School. She also taught at Barrigada Jr. High School in
Guam. After retiring from teaching, she taught piano students at her home.
Georgia Faye sang in college musicals, at many weddings and with the USO in the
1940s. She played piano, organ and saxophone. She played the organ at the First
Baptist Church in Alvord, First Baptist Church Montague and Memorial Baptist in
Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister Betty OBannion; and
grandson Chad Crawford.
She is survived by her children, Margaret C. Hinton and husband, Roger, of
Taylor, Robert G.Allen and wife, Debra, of Ebbe, Wash., John David Huffman of

Rod was born Oct. 27, 1960, in Missoula, Mont., to Bill and Alice Irion.
He later moved to Jamestown. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1979
where he held the record for the pole vault for 30 years. He moved to Garrison
where he operated his own guide service known as Dakota Limit Guide Service
until 1993.
In 1994, he graduated from Bismarck State College with a power/process plant
technology degree. He married Dawn Gruchalla in December 1995, and they lived in
Battle Mountain, Nev. In 2010, then moved to Runaway Bay where he was employed
at Brazos Electric Co-op until his death.
Rod and his fishing partner, Mark Boyd, won the 1992 Saskatchewan Premier’s
Cup/Can-Am Cup. His last fishing tournament was in September with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and mother-in-law Ramona Gruchalla.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Brooke Irion of Runaway Bay; his father,
Bill Irion and wife, Mary, of Orofino, Idaho; sister Carolyn Kvislen of

Jackie June Johnson “Grandma Jackie,” 92, of Willow Point, died Thursday,
Aug. 23, 2018, in Bridgeport.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Balsora Baptist Church with Glenn
Connell and Matt Norton officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Point
Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 12:30 p.m.

Jackie June Clayton was born June 1, 1926, in Breckenridge to Floyd and Mary
Clayton. The family moved several times, owning and operating dairy farms in
Moran, Breckenridge, Grand Prairie, Arlington, Crosbyton and Willow Point.
Jackie was a “young war bride” relocating with her husband Norris Stegall
when stationed in Bryan and Taylorsville, Utah and following the war, farming
near family in Willow Point.
Separation and divorce resulted in a move to Fort Worth. As a single mother of
two, she worked as a cashier at the Courthouse Market in downtown Fort Worth.
Jackie returned to Willow Point, married and partnered with Ralph Chivers in
dairy farming. Together they raised seven boys. A few years after Ralph’s
death, she married Marshall Johnson. She was active in the church and community.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; siblings Eldene
Wadsworth, Jo Fancher, Pat Franklin, Floyd Lee Clayton and Jeanette Denton; sons
Kelly Stegall, Jim Bob Chivers, Bill Chivers and Tom Chivers; stepdaughter
Rhonda Frary; stepson-in-law Kevin Keichlin; daughters-in-law Myrna Chivers and
Glenda Chivers; granddaughters Kathleen Stegall and Jade Chivers; great-grandson
Phillip Ponder; and nephews Robert Dalton Laird and Vaughn Paul Laird.
She is survived by son James “Jim” Floyd Stegall and wife, Pat; stepsons
Darrel Johnson and wife, Shirley, and Paul Johnson and wife, Carol;
stepdaughters Vicki Leis and husband, Ron, and Judy Keichlin, daughters-in-law
Beverly (Stegall) Deaton, Lori Chivers, Jane Chivers and Velva Johnson; numerous
grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren

was a third-degree black belt in Kenpo Karate.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Billy Bristow; niece Zoey Kate

Marvin G. “Bob” Johnston, 83, formerly of Bridgeport, died Sunday, April 1,
2018, in Fort Worth.

Bob was born Aug. 29, 1934, in Petrolia to William C. and Grace Johnston. He
graduated from Petrolia High School in 1952, and Texas A&M University with a
bachelor’s degree in 1956 and a master’s degree in 1957. He served his
country in the U.S. Air Force.
Bob lived in Bridgeport for more than 10 years where he was a real estate broker
and local business owner.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; second mother Martha Johnston;
brothers Wesley and Bill Johnston; and sisters Dorothy Briner and Wilma Vinzant.
He is survived by brothers Ben Johnston of Houston and James Ray Johnston of
Canton; sisters Mary Holloway of Henrietta, Barbara Laseman of Jolly and Doris

downtown Bridgeport for many years. Nevesta was a member of the First United
Methodist Church of Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brother Jessie Grantham; and sister
Bessie Barrett.
Nevesta is survived by sons S. Mike Jones and wife, Joanna and Kevin R. Jones
and wife, Sherri, all of Paradise; six grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren.

the early Dallas skyline. He was also a mechanic and member of the First Baptist
Church.

Norma Dean (Matney) Kardaras, 74, of Fort Worth, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018.

Norma Dean was born Nov. 26, 1943, in Decatur to Robert Lee and Augusta Lee
(Perkins) Matney. She was raised in Decatur and attended schools there. She was
a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, before moving to Fort Worth in 1962. She
married R.E. “Ed” Kardaras Aug. 7, 1967, in Fort Worth and lived in River
Oaks. Norma was a member of Westworth Village Baptist Church since 1997. She
loved southern gospel music and her favorite groups were Hovie Lister and
Statesmen Quartet and J.D. Summer and Stamps Quartet. And of course Elvis
Presley’s music. Norma was a true Elvis fan from the start until her death.
She loved cooking, baking and trying new recipes and collecting recipes that she
wanted to try. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, gardening, crafts and
collecting stuff. She was a retired bookkeeper and assembler.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; seven sisters, Opal
Boyett, LaVelle Carter, Alma Francis, Imogene Morrow, Frances Dickenson and
JoAnn Matney; brother Don Matney; and a stillborn sister.
She is survived by her nieces, Gwen Stewart, Barbara Murray, Donna Matney, Danny
Matney and Liza Hollon of Fort Worth and Joshua; step-grandchildren Jeffery
Kardaras, Priscilla Griscom, Ian Kardaras, Eric Kardaras and Ethan Kardaras;

was born March 31, 1921, in Warren County, Penn., to Charles M. and Myrtle
(Wood) Knupp. He married Margaret Wade Jan. 4, 1999, in Colleyville. Chuck
served his country in the Army Air Corps/United States Air Force as a pilot and
an officer flying B-24s with missions over Germany during World War II.
He
was also a veteran of the Korean War. Chuck obtained the rank of captain at the
end of his service. He was a retired air traffic controller.

was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Eleanore Knupp; second wife
Ruth Jane Knupp; son Charles Randall “C.R.” Knupp; and siblings Inez

and Irene Ruth West Kunau. He graduated from William (Billy) Mitchell High

Waxahachie, where he received his associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in
ministry in 1977.
Dennis married Glenda Fern Gilder in 1974. From 1977 to 1984, both Dennis and
Glenda taught in Christian schools and churches in Jacksonville, N.C., Security,
Colo., Arlington, Mansfield, Midlothian, Red Oak and Waxahachie.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Ray Kunau; daughter Charity Faith Kunau
Vasquez; sister Wanda Gay Kunau Whitman and husband, Shelton Dean; brother Monty

Glenda was born March 15, 1949, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. She
was the second daughter born to Glenn and Fern Willhite Gilder and .
Glenda graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1967 and attended school at
Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie from 1967 until 1971. While
in college, she was a member of Who’s Who of American Junior Colleges and was
a member of Harvesters Choir. Glenda was president of the Gold Jackets and wrote
for the college newspaper, The Southwesterner.
She received her Associate of Arts in Education in 1969 and her Bachelor of
Science in Christian Education in 1971. She married Dennis Ray Kunau in 1974.
From 1977 to 1984, she and her husband taught in Christian schools and churches
in Jacksonville, N.C.; Security, Colo.; Arlington; Mansfield; Midlothian; Red
Oak; and Waxahachie.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents; and older sister, Charlotte Elain
Gilder Falani.
She is survived by her husband; son Christopher Ray Kunau; daughter Charity
Faith Kunau Vasquez; sisters Janice Marie Gilder Sillavan and husband, Jerry, of
Nashville, Ark., and Roberta Jean Gilder Strawn and husband, Glen, of Jonesboro,
Ark.; and three grandchildren.

Marion Kurosky, 80, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, in Decatur.
Memorial service is 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at Faith Tabernacle Assembly of
God, 420 South Blue Mound Road in Fort Worth, with Harley Martin officiating.
Marion was born Dec. 31, 1936, in Fort Worth and grew up on the Northside. As an
adolescent, he attended J.P. Elder Middle School and Northside Assembly Of God.
As a young man, Marion was a sharp dresser and loved to hang out at the Fort
Worth Stockyards, Burger’s Lake and Casino Beach at Lake Worth.
He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, and he loved classic gangster films and
thrillers. Later in life, Marion became an avid music fan and loved to collect
music memorabilia and attend concerts. He loved his family and friends, and he
absolutely adored his mother. He was a down-to-earth, easy-going, fun-loving man
who never met a stranger. Marion was a practical joker with a great sense of
humor. He retired from Kurosky and Co. Sandblast and Painting, a company founded
by his brother, Frank Jr.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Mary Hurst Kurosky.
He is survived by his wife Betty; sons David and wife, Lisa, and Michael and
wife, Tonya; grandchildren Andrew, William, Paige and Stefanie; brother Frank
Jr.; nephews Gary and Clifford; niece Pamela Rust; and best friend Bud Gardner.

Geneva M. LaHue, 90, of Paradise, died Sunday, June 3, 2018, in Bridgeport.

Geneva was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Norfork, Ark., to Charlie and Bettie
(Patterson) May. She was a Baptist. She worked for the Sunshine Biscuit Co. in

at Keller High School. After graduating from Tarleton, he joined Abbott
Laboratories as a pharmaceutical representative and in later years was a
registered professional landman working as an independent petroleum landman for
several oil companies.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie Misenhimer Lane; daughter Hannah Lane of
Conway, Ark.; sons Landry Adams and fiancee, Brittany Cooper, of McKinney and

worked in aircraft production, including 35 years with Lockheed.
In retirement, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America at the council level
and earned the Silver Beaver Award. He was also a board member of the American
Red Cross.
Bernie was preceded in death by his wife; and his parents.

Garland was born Aug. 4, 1937, in Decatur to Garland “Buck” Sr. and Velma
(Bennett) Lipsey. He married Wyvonne Kemp June 30, 1955, in Decatur. Garland was
a retired owner/operator of an excavation company and was a member of the
Decatur Church of Christ. Garland was self-employed most of his life, operating
bulldozers, maintainers, backhoes and other equipment. He did asphalt paving and
concrete work and later raised cattle and hay. He could do plumbing and
electrical work, and actually built his last home from the slab up. Years ago,
he learned to fly and owned a small plane.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Lanelle Lipsey; and brother
James Lipsey.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years; son David Lipsey of Graham; daughters
Laurie Lipsey of Bryan and Sherri Harding and husband, Joe, of Mineola; five
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother Richard Lipsey of Garland.

2018, in Hemphill.

began as a roustabout and retired as production superintendent of the Onshore
Division in Houston. He then became the vice president of production for
Greenhill Petroleum Corp.
Charley was preceded in death by his son, Dan Little.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years; daughters Charla Little, Christy McNinch
and husband, Andy and Robin Little; son Mark Little; four grandchildren; two

Guam. He graduated from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and was a
design engineer for General Dynamics for 41 years. John retired in 1992.

and had been a church organist since she was 16.
Carol and Jim moved often in the early years of their marriage, living in
Portales, N.M., Los Alamos, N.M., and Las Vegas, Nev., before moving to
Carrollton in 1973, where they raised their children. In 2002, Carol retired,
and they moved to Justin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Gordon Pitkin and Clyde
Pitkin; and grandson Karl Andrew Long.
Carol is survived by her husband; children Kim Miller and husband, Wayne, of

the USS Hancock and the USS Severn. He also received the Purple Heart during his
time of service.

Gordon L. Lovell, 98, of Decatur, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, in Decatur.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with the
Rev. Gerre Joiner officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Gordon was born Sept. 14, 1920, in Commerce to Earl and Mattye (Monday) Lovell.
He married Peggy Faye Taylor July 2, 1941, in Lubbock. Gordon was a member of
the First Baptist Church in Decatur. He served in the United States Army Air
Corp during World War II. Gordon was a member of the Wise County Veteran’s
Group.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and two brothers.
He is survived by his sons, Donald Lovell and wife, Lynn, of Utah, and Gary
Lovell of Decatur; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.

Imogene
was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Forestburg to Dave and Nellie (Moss) Ray. She married
Glen Lynch June 2, 1934, in Ryan, Okla. She enjoyed family gatherings, singing
and dancing, tending to her rent houses and mowing her yard.
Imogene
was a member of the Forestburg Baptist Church and in 1957 was involved with
leading the singing, as well as teaching a junior boys Bible class.
In
2007, she was the grand marshal at the Forestburg Watermelon Festival, which
exemplified the true spirit of that year’s theme “Celebrating Farming and
Ranching.”
She
was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; daughter Peggy Lynch; and
great-great-granddaughter Evany Barragan.
Imogene
is survived by her sons, Doyle Lynch and wife, Virgina, and Gordy Lynch and
wife, Denna, all of Forestburg; six granddaughters; 14 great-grandchildren; and
seven great-great-grandchildren with two on the way; sister Frances Caswell of
Bowie; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Derrel Eugene Lyon, 82, of Chico, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, in Denton.
Memorial service was Oct. 31 at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with the
Rev. Rick White officiating.
Derrel was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Vernon to William and Mary (Merrifield) Lyon.
As a child, he delivered the weekly newspaper and was known as the Pony Express
in Chico. He worked in oilfield construction for most of his adult life.
Derrel was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Ozelle Nena Gall.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Lee “Ginni” (Humbert) Lyon of Chico;
son Jimmy Lyon of Orange; daughters Teresa Heth of Bay City, Tereana Ottis and
husband, Paul, of Bay City and Billie Slusher and husband, Robert, of Edna;
stepsons Rick White and wife, Leea, of Rhome, Gary White and wife, Teresa, of

David Keith Magee, 60, of Wharton died Friday, March 9, 2018.
Graveside service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville with
Rev. Larry Kremling officiating.
Keith was born July 6, 1957, in Gainesville to Edward Franklin and Leita Mary (Betancourt)
Magee. Keith graduated Gainesville High School and the University of Texas
School of Journalism. He worked at several newspapers throughout Texas,
including serving as editor of the Wise County Messenger
from 1991 to 1994. Most recently he was the managing editor at the Wharton Journal-Spector in Wharton.
Keith was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his mother, sister Debbie Floyd, nephew Matt Burkholder and
numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his Schnauzer and
companion Buddy.

June Lavell Mann, 87, of Decatur, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, in Decatur.

Lavell was born May 14, 1931, in Fort Worth to William Lon and Bertha Ardella (Whetsell)
Roberson. She married Billy Joe Mann Sept. 6, 1948, in Decatur. The couple moved
back to Decatur when Bill retired from the U.S. Air Force. They owned and
operated the M&M Food Mart from 1970 to 1987. She joined the Order of the
Eastern Star while her husband was stationed in Germany in 1965. Lavell became a
member of Decatur of Eastern Star No. 543 and Boyd No. 897, and received her
50-year pin in 2016. Lavell was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years.
She is survived by her son, Rick Mann and wife, Claire, of Friendswood; four
grandchildren; sister Marcine Rebstock of Lewisville; and sister-in-law Linda
Roberson of Sherwood, Ark.

Marita Mae Marney, 84, of Bridgeport, died Monday, June 11, 2018, in Bridgeport.

Marita was born Oct. 14, 1933, in Dennis to William Earnest and Opal Lorraine
(Hatton) Plumlee. She married Bill Marney Dec. 30, 1950, in Hope, Ark. They were
married more than 67 years.
Marita was a self-taught artist, sound technician, interior designer, political
activist, cook and baker, as well as a business owner. Marita and Bill were
founding members of the Wise County Republican Party. She also was a founding
member of the Bridgeport Art Club.
Bill and Marita were members of The Glory Express, a southern gospel singing
group where she learned how to run the sound board as they traveled the country.
The Glory Express members were heavily involved in the Mommas and Poppas variety
show tradition to raise money for the Bridgeport Band Boosters. Marita and Bill
were camp counselors at Falls Creek Baptist Camp, and she taught art classes and
had an interior design business. She also taught school at Christian Heritage
School at Faith Temple Church.
Marita was preceded in death by her parents; brothers FH, Billy Wayne and
Adrian; sister Barbara June; and granddaughters Emily Logan and Neely Graves.
She is survived by her husband; daughters Carolyn McComis and husband, Keith,
Toni Logan and husband, Brad, and Teresa Graves and husband, Greg, all of
Bridgeport; sons Scott Marney of Lewisville and Eric Marney and wife, Shannon,
of Boyd; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister Peggy Hartsell and

Charles Orla Martin, 86, of Slidell, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, in Denton.

Charles was born Feb. 1, 1931, in Lansing, Mich., to Guy William and Viva Marie
(Pollok) Martin. He married Elizabeth Bartleson Murdoch May 14, 1955, in
Lansing, and they were married almost 55 years. He served in the United States
Army during the Korean War. Charles drove a truck for various companies, over a
span of 47 years, covering east of the Mississippi and into Canada.
Charles loved his family and living life. He enjoyed driving to the Denton
Senior Center and being part of the activities there.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and sister Rose Ribby.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Rose Escamilla of Colorado, Virginia
Rowland of Decatur and Rebecca Kay Irving of Decatur; four grandchildren; and 10

Robert “Bob” James Mayo, 73, died Saturday, May 26, 2018.

Robert was born June 15, 1944, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Charles and Bernice
(Haynes) Mayo.
Bob attended high school in Grinnell and was an Iowa state champion wrestler.
Bob received a wrestling scholarship to attend college. After one year of
college, he found his true calling in professional rodeo. Bob was a member of
the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association for nearly 15 years, competing in
bareback bronco riding events. During his time in the professional rodeo
circuit, Bob amassed a number of wins and had some of his best years between
1966 and 1971. He finished third in the National Finals Rodeo in ’67 and
’68. In 2011, Bob was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame along
with his brother Paul. Bob lived most of his life in various parts of Texas
before finally settling just outside of Dallas-Fort Worth where he lived for 25
years. In 2017 Bob and his wife, Eva, moved to Sierra Vista, Ariz.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents; and sister Delores.
He is survived by his wife; brothers Paul, Don and Roger Mayo; children Tim
Eastep and wife, Jill, Tom Eastep and wife, Vanessa, Terry Eastep, Mary Gilstrap

in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era. He also served as a
volunteer firefighter for the Newark Fire Department for many years. He was a
retired carpenter.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 41 years.
He is survived by his sons, William, Allen and Steven Myers; daughter Kathy
Myers; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Stanley Lynn McClung, 78, formerly of Alvord, died Tuesday, March 20, 2018, in
Lancaster, Calif.
Graveside service is 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at Pleasant Grove No. 3
Cemetery in Chico.
Lynn was born Oct. 23, 1939, in Happy. He was the youngest of three children
born to E.H. and Pearl McClung. He grew up in Oklahoma, graduated from Retrop
High School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from
Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
Lynn was a coach and wood shop teacher in Kansas and Oklahoma before moving to
California. He coached baseball at Rubidoux High School in Riverside and moved
to the Antelope Valley in 1971. He taught at Palmdale High School and coached
golf, basketball, baseball, football and tennis, retiring in 2002.
A longtime referee and official, he then became a rules official for golf events
at all levels including NCAA, SCGA and LPGA.
Lynn is survived by his children, Vicky (Michael) Vogel, Sandy Rodriguez and
Stan (Michelle) McClung; seven grandchildren; and sister Eueline Sharp.

Doug served two terms on the Bridgeport School Board. He was a member of
Bridgeport ISD’s Wall of Fame and of the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce.

Dalaney was full of life, love and happiness. She attended Liberty Elementary
and loved her teacher Mrs. Depp. Dalaney loved eating pepperoni pizza, playing
with her dogs, Rowdy, Abby and Rexie and generally being outside. She was a
fearless little girl with a sweet demeanor. Dalaney made friends with ease, her
personality was warm and feisty and made her incredibly memorable.
Dalaney’s time on this earth was far too short. She affected everyone around
her with a positivity that only she could provide. Dalaney will be remembered as
the sweet, independent, wonderful little girl everyone knew and loved.
She is preceded in death by her great-grandfather, L.J. Golden.

Arlon R. Morris, 85, of Chico, died Sunday, May 6, 2018.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Morris Memorial United Methodist Church
with Rev. Mike Miller officiating. Burial will follow burial at Cumby Cemetery.
Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in
Bridgeport.

Walker Woolman, Braiden Black and Skylar Black.
Arlon was born Nov. 21, 1932, to Roy Leslie and Winnie (McGuire) Morris in
Chico. He married Bobbie Lucille Martin Feb. 7, 1953, in Fort Worth. He worked
as a farmer and rancher. Arlon was a member of the Morris Memorial United
Methodist Church in Chico. He served on the Wise County Soil and Water
Conservation District Board of Directors. He won the Texas Zone 5 Conservation
Farmer Award in 1989. He was a member of the Chico No. 433 Order Of The Eastern
Star as well as a 50-year member of Chico Masonic Lodge 508 and Dallas Scottish
Rite
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, John Morris; sister Lanell
Morris; and brother, Roy Hulen Morris.
Arlon is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bobbie Martin Morris of Chico; son,
Audie Morris and wife, Lynn, of Chico; daughters, Bettie German and husband,
Mark, of Chico and Peggy Black and husband, Russell, of Chico; five
grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Emory was born April 24, 1929, in Krum to Dillard Emett and Fanny Francis (Wilcheck)
Moss. He married Litha Finley March 14, 1954, in Stoney Baptist Church. Emory
served two years in the military. He retired from Lone Star Gas Company after 31
years as a pipeline operator in the natural gas petroleum production industry.
He was a member of the Baptist church.
He was preceded in death by his wife; grandson Tobi Moss; great-grandsons Mason
Hendrix and Billy Wayne Robinson; great-granddaughter Mary Marie Harris;
son-in-law Steven Ray Throneberry; and eight brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughters, Betty Throneberry of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Mary
Robinson and husband, Billy, of Waxahachie, Debbie Coredro and husband, Patrick,

Ryan was born Aug. 14, 1989, in Lancaster to Trevor and Cindy Munnerlyn. He was
a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Ryan was an Eagle
Scout and a 2007 graduate of Decatur High School. He was studying to be an
engineer.

Nelson. He married Darlene Beatrice Vogt Nov. 1, 1968, in Irving. Charles was a

States Army. He was a diesel specialist.

Bridgeport.

Marie was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Rosston to Sam Houston and Minnie Lee (Gentry)
Payne. She married Bob Lester New in Austin in 1940. Before moving to Wise
County in 1974, she lived in Victoria. She was a bookkeeper for most of her
adult life, working 22 years at First Victoria National Bank, as well as
bookkeeping in Bridgeport.
She had been a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1976. She was moderator
of the women of the church, and also served terms as elder and trustee. In
addition, she was editor of the church newsletter, life member of Presbyterian
Women, founder and charter member of Kraz-z Quilting Club with more than 20
years of making quilts for the community.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 61 years and five
months.
She is survived by her son, Dwight Lester New of Bridgeport; two grandchildren;
and sister Dr. Lou Fink of Dripping Springs.

Wood where he retired after over 30 years. Wayne loved deer hunting. He was a
member of the Flatwood Baptist Church. Wayne served his country in the United
States Army.

Charles “Casey” Edward O’Bannion, 83, of Decatur, died Sunday Feb. 4,
2018, in Decatur.
Casey donated his body to research at UT Southwestern. An Irish wake was held
Feb. 5.
Casey was born Feb. 16, 1934, in Ellis County to Floyd and Hope (Causey)
O’Bannion. He married Betty McConnell. He was a farmer. He worked in
construction and home repair.
Casey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sister Martha Lou
O’Bannion; and great-grandson Riley Hensley.
He is survived by his daughters, Gail Matthews of Decatur and Cindy and Michael
Joseph of Powderly; sons Charles and Andrea O’Bannion of Monterey, Calif.,
Michael and Michele O’Bannion of Valley View and Patrick O’Bannion of Cabot,
Ark.; sisters Mary Spradlin of Tyler and Polly McKinley of Conroe; 13

Sydney Ann Owens, 83, of Decatur, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, in Decatur.
Sydney Ann was born March 25, 1935, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Ben and Mable
Finley. She graduated from Arlington High School and then attended the
University of Arkansas. She graduated from Texas Christian University with a
degree in nursing.
She married in 1962 and lived in Hereford. She spent many years nursing and
teaching nursing and worked as secretary at First Christian Church.
Later, after moving to Fayetteville, Ark., she served her community for 25 years
as a volunteer for Washington Regional Hospital and was a member of Sequoya
Methodist Church. She lived the last five years of her life in Decatur.
Sydney Ann is survived by her daughter, Connie Ann Wyatt of Decatur; four
grandchildren; brother Bob Finley of Temecula, Calif.

married Michael Wayne Page Sr. May 17, 1993. Brenda lived in Rhome for the past
19 years.

Park. He married Betty Lou Whitaker in October 1942.
Sgt. Park was serving in Company I, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry
Division for the United States Army during World War II. He was killed Nov. 23,
1944 by shrapnel from enemy fire, in the vicinity of J ngersdorf, northern edge
of the H rtgen Forest in Germany. After 74 years, Sgt. Park has been reunited
with his family and will be laid to rest in the Park family plot in the Dresden
Cemetery in Dresden.
He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Johnny Park; and younger
sister, Evelyn Park.
In 1944 he was survived by his parents; and his wife who has since passed away.
He is survived by his daughter, Kay Park Crawford of Bridgeport; grandchildren,
Regina Knutson and husband, Brent, John Crawford Jr. and wife, Kodeann, and
Jamie Paradise, and husband, Jason; great-grandchildren Steven Laughlin, T.J.
Phipps, Cameron Crawford and Colton Paradise; and great-great-grandchild Andrew

Norma Aline Parrish, 81, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, in Decatur.

Norma was born Nov. 13, 1936, in Graham to Miles Alvin and Willie Norma Roberts
Parrish. She graduated from Graham High School and later married Jimmie Cornell
Dec. 7, 1957. He preceded her in death Jan. 12, 1997.
Norma was a former resident of Graham, Irving and Granbury. She was a retired
telephone operator and later a phone receptionist. She loved spending time with
her family and had a love for animals of all kinds. She enjoyed gardening and
the outdoors.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Cornell; and sister Mattie Lee Barker.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Charlene Cornell and Ronnie Riddle of Joshua;
sons Kyle Cornell and wife, Lori, of Quanah and Keith Cornell and wife, Sandy,

involved in the Decatur Book Club.

Prather died Monday, June 18, 2018, in Decatur.
Sandy was born April 5, 1945, in Wynnewood, Okla., to Joe and Mildred (Brown)
Peters. She was a retired Merle Norman Cosmetics beauty consultant.
She was preceded in death by her father; brother Jimmy Ray Peters; sister Treva
Jo Peters; and grandson Judah Leon Hall.
She is survived by her mother, Mildred Bell and husband, Eldon, of Fort Worth;
daughter Mellody Brewer and husband, Doug, of North Richland Hills; son Billy
Leon Hall Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Wynnewood, Okla.; two grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.

Kay Pratka, 73, of Paradise, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at her home.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at Jones Family Funeral Home in Decatur
with the Rev. Sonya Shahan officiating. Burial will follow at Boyd Cemetery.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the funeral home.
Kay was born Nov. 2, 1944, in Frederick, Okla., to Ike and Opal West. She
married Jerry Pratka Feb. 23, 1980, in Pasadena. Kay owned a beauty salon and
jewelry and gifts business. She was a member of the Paradise United Methodist
Church.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; brother Robert West; and sister Joyce
Spencer.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Pratka of Paradise; sons Chad Pratka of
Houston and Brian Pratka of Houston; and a granddaughter.

Carol Jean Price, 80, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018.
Funeral is 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Mount Olivet Chapel, 2301 North
Sylvania Ave., in Fort Worth. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation is at 10 a.m., prior to the service.
Carol was born July 6, 1938, in Fort Worth to Winnie and Mack “Buddy” Davis.
She married Junior Price on her 25th birthday – July 6, 1963. They were
married 42 years until Junior’s death. They bought Liberty Mills Feed store on
North Main in Fort Worth and raised their five kids in Haslet.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister Betty Sigmond; and
brother Don Davis.
She is survived by her children, Pennie Connelly and husband, Marcus, Lou Ann
Waters and husband, Terry, Donna Price, Jana Henson and her husband, Duane, and
Kenneth Price and wife, Robin; seven grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.

Eileen Alberta Price, 76, of Rhome, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, in Decatur.
Eileen was born Aug. 12, 1942, in Cincinnati to Ralph and Dorothy (Karle) Egbert.
She married Garnett Dean Price Feb. 4, 1970, in Osgood Ripley, Ind. Eileen
retired as a United States postal worker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
She is survived by her son, Dean Christopher Price of Rhome; sister Marion
Button of Cincinnati; and brothers Ralph Robert Egbert Jr. of Hamilton, Ohio,
Gary Egbert of Spencer, Okla., and Ronnie Egbert of Cincinnati.

Kristofer was born April 23, 1978, in Fort Worth to Edward and Trudy Jane “T.J.”
(Fagan) Price. He was a lifelong resident of Wise County. He was a carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his father and his wife, Donna Price; his mother;
and his grandparents.
Kristofer is survived by his son, Kristian Price of Rhome; daughter Kimberly
Price of Rhome; sisters Crystal Price and her daughters, Chloe and Camille Shaw,
of Boyd, Lana Simpson of Anaconda, Mont., Robyn Smith and husband, Duane, of
Denison and Darla Auldridge of Henderson; brother Paul Griffin and wife, Kristi,
of Alvord; aunt Pam Fagan and husband, Bill, of Denison; and stepdad Richard

James Marion Pugh
James Marion Pugh, 85, of Decatur died Thursday, April 26, 2018.
Graveside service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Jackson Cemetery in Krum.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton.
James was born Dec. 29, 1932. He graduated from Ponder High School. He was a
rancher, avid hunter and trained hunting dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Doyle Pugh and Grover Cleveland
Pugh; his first wife, Nita Jo Hilger Pugh; and siblings Coy Doyle Pugh, Elmer
Lee Pugh, G.C. Pugh Jr., Treailla Olene Pugh Burns, Betty Jo Pugh Richards and
Frank Monroe Pugh.
James is survived by his wife, JoAnn Wilson of Decatur; and sister Coleta
Francine Pugh Stacks of Granbury.

Larry Dee Putnam
Larry Dee Putnam, 77, Chico, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2018.
Funeral was Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Aurora Baptist Church with graveside at Aurora
Cemetery.
Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur handled arrangements.
Larry was born March 17, 1940, in Greenburg, Kan. to Alferd and Ruth Putnam. The
family moved to Colorado in 1945. Larry attended schools in Wiley and McClave,
graduating from McClave High School in 1958. He was awarded a full scholarship
in auto-mechanics and attended Pueblo Jr. College. He graduated in 1960. Larry
is an Air Force veteran. He served from 1962 to 1966. While serving his country,
he was trained in electronics. After his service, he took that training and
applied it to a new career with Curtis Mathis. He had a successful career with
Curtis Mathis and eventually owned his own home entertainment businesses. He
enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, tinkering and learning how to fly his own
airplane. He enjoyed most of these hobbies in his retirement, with his companion
Andrea.
Larry was preceded in death by his father; twin brother Barry Putnam; and sister
Linda Putnam Miller.
He is survived by his mother; his companion of 12 years, Andrea Benthall of
Aurora; son Shad Putnam and wife, Heather, of Grain Valley, Mo.; daughter Nicole
Moore and husband, Troy, of Platte City, Mo.; sister Lita Schaffer and husband,
Tom, of Livermore, Ca,; grandchildren Joshua, Megan, Ty and JD; and
great-granddaughter Amelia.
Also left behind are numerous extended family members and friends.
