Headstones)
Booth Cemetery is located out in the pasture east of
Chico. From Chico go east out 1810 toward Decatur. Turn to the north on CR 1450 and go a
couple of miles to a green gate on the left. The land belongs to Marilyn Tucker and the
gate may be locked. You go straight west trough the pasture for over a half a mile (there
are two more gates that may be closed).
The cemetery is more than an acre of woods and brush that has a chain
link fence around it. There's no real road to this cemetery and the gate was tied shut.
We found 37 readable headstones at the time of our survey in Sept of 2000. We started in the southeast corner (where the truck is parked) and worked our way north and west but could not lay off rows. Headstones are numbered as we came to them.
We were unable to get to some headstones like this one with the tree on it.
Update: In 2004 Dale Ellison, Darrell Minter and some other friends worked for several weekends to clean this cemetery. IT LOOKS MUCH DIFFERENT NOW! 9 additional headstones were found after his clean-up. You can reach Dale at thecaveman@tx.rr.com .
